Spender or Saver?

I saw an article on Yahoo the other day that discussed people who are tightwads or spendthrifts and identifying which you are. At first I thought this is easy I am a saver because I love to coupon shop and price-match at Wal-Mart.  But then reality hit me as I had to be honest with myself about how I really shop.  I am one who will be upset to pay outrageous prices for milk, cheese, medications, bread, fresh fruits and vegetables, clothes, shoes and just about all the necessities.  I however will not think twice or even look at the cost when throwing chips, cookies, ice cream and soda in my cart.  So does that really qualify me as a saver when I don’t have a care in the world how much my snack cravings may be costing me but a gallon of milk will set me off?

It is a great article to read because it talks about the psychological impact of spending on both tightwads and spendthrifts.  Does spending/saving make you happy or sad?  Can you really feel guilt by both saving and spending? The article also talks about how relationships function with these different attributes and what works best for a happy healthy relationship.

  1. Thanks for sharing this! I will be reading the link later.

  2. Reading this, I had to think too! As much as I need to save… I love going out to eat. I’m a spender..but working on it! Haha thanks for sharing!

    • Yes we eat out more then we need to also. I guess in my mind saving all the money in other areas makes it okay to spend in those moments, but that really should not be the case if I am thinking logically!

  3. I’ll have to read it later but I’d think I’m a saver. Tightwad. Penny pincher. Hate to pay retail for anything! And I do feel guilty when I spend $$.
